This knife would be good to use in a survival kit, as a standby or second knife for rare use. It could be used for a mess kit knife though. The edges of the tangs are sharp enough to make it uncomfortable when using it. If you had to use this for very long, it might wear a hole in your hand if not used with gloves. For what it is, I guess it's a OK knife, but not made for everyday use. That said, perhaps the tangs could be ground down a bit to make this knife a little more comfortable to use.
